A tiny fishing hamlet which now earns its living from tourism, Bali is beautifully tucked away just off the northern coastal highway, half way between the capital, Heraklion, and the historic port city of Rethymnon. The village road meanders past dazzling white houses on the hillsides, overlooking four tiny sandy coves between rocky outcrops, one with a watersports centre, before finally descending to the picturesque working harbour, still the resort's focal point. Friendly little tavernas serve the day's catch and local specialities, and a track leads over the headland to Evita Beach. As you might expect, nightlife here is low key, centred upon the harbour tavernas and a couple of music bars. A hire car allows you to explore nearby mountain villages such as Margarite, famous for its Cretan pottery, and Perama's Melidoni Cave, or venture further afield to Heraklion or Rethymnon for shopping and sightseeing. Wherever you may roam, we know you'll be only too pleased to get back home to beautiful Bali!
