Kefalonia > Lourdas

Lourdas Beach
Resort Details
You will be met at Kefalonia airport and transferred to Lourdas.

Journey time is approximately 45 minutes.
Kefalonia's south coast road wanders around the lower slopes of mighty Mount Ennos, with stunning views down to the shoreline below. Halfway between Svoronata and Scala you'll catch sight of a long, silver-white beach, shelving into a translucent, turquoise sea - welcome to Lourdas! A small side turning snakes downhill into tiny Lourdata village, huddled around a natural spring, with a handful of tavernas and bars, a mini-market, and a cafeneion in the shade of a huge plane tree. As you can imagine, nightlife is decidedly low-key in these parts (and it's pretty laid back in the daytime too!)

The narrow road continues its winding descent through olive and citrus groves, finally reaching Lourdas beach itself, a great swathe of coarse pale sand and white pebbles. There's a choice of beachside tavernas serving local specialities and fresh fish. Neighbouring Zante is clearly visible across the bright water, and behind you, a forest of cypress and pine tumbles down the mountainside to the bay. It's all quite breathtaking - and so is the walk back up the hill to the village square and beyond, where much of the accommodation is situated!

We have taken the gradient into account in our estimated walking times - but let's just say you won't forget the sun-cream back at the room more than once! We provide taxi transfers to some accommodations, and a torch would be useful for late night returns. Lourdas is not suitable for the elderly or infirm. but if you're of average fitness and take your time, the scenic beauty of this up and coming resort more than repays the effort.
