In the shadow of the magnificent pine-clad mountains, the former fishing village of Icmeler has grown into a smart modern resort behind its sweeping crescent of sand and shingle beach, shelving gently into the clear blue waters of beautiful Marmaris Bay. Popular with UK holidaymakers, especially families, it has many pedestrianised streets, well-tended gardens, and a full complement of restaurants, promenade cafes, and shops - there's even a waterpark. Marmaris itself is less than ten kilometres away, and easily accessible by dolmus or water taxi for shopping trips or nights out on the town. Icmeler's great beach has watersports, and a diving school, and most Thursdays, there's a colourful market in the old village. After the sun goes down, evenings here can be as lively or as relaxed as you like. Dine out under the stars, followed by your favourite music bar, then on to a disco or back to base - it all depends on how much energy you have left!
