Do you like spectacular beaches' If so, have we got news (and breathtaking views) for you! One of the most photographed beaches in the Med', if not the world, is the sand bar at the mouth of Olu Deniz. In Turkish, the name means 'dead sea', referring to the stunning Blue Lagoon at the heart of this beautiful nature reserve. The sand itself is really tiny white pebbles, which explains the crystal clarity of the water, and its amazing shades of turquoise and aquamarine. But that's not all, beach lovers. From the lagoon, Belcekis Beach, a wide sweeping swathe of coarse pale sand and shingle, stretches endlessly southwards towards a distant headland - so there's plenty of room to spread yourself out and get to work on the tan. A smart resort village has grown up here to cater for the sun-worshippers, with a selection of shops, restaurants and boutiques, but as Olu Deniz is a protected national park it's been spared the worst excesses of mass development (there's still a small admission fee to the protected lagoon itself). There are a number of smart hotels, some with roof-garden restaurants, and several music bars and cafes down by the beach. Since we started coming here twenty years ago, it's blossomed from a tranquil beauty spot into a sophisticated resort. Olu Deniz may mean 'dead sea', but for us it's just drop-dead gorgeous - even the sunsets here are to die for!
