On the hillside above the busy east coast road, about half way between Afandou and Lindos, the village of Archangelos basks serenely in the sunshine. Turn off at this point and follow the small side road as it winds downhill through almond and lemon groves, where sheep graze in the dappled shade, and you'll soon reach the little-known resort of Stegna. The main attraction here is a great sweeping curve of sand and shingle shelving gently into turquoise waters, lapping around tiny rocky outcrops in the shadow of a rugged headland. Lovely! You'll find watersports, sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, and the usual assortment of tavernas, bars and tourist shops spread along the roadside. Although it can get fairly lively in high season, by Rhodes standards Stegna is barely on the tourist map. So if you want to kick back and unwind by a great beach, with all the delights of Rhodes within reach, come on down!
