Thassos

Thassos
The emerald green isle of Thassos has fabulous pale sand beaches, and scenery that reminds us of our favourite Greek destinations such as Skiathos or Corfu, but with far fewer visitors!

Thassos Town is a bustling port, making a comfortable living from tourism, a great base for exploring all the island has to offer. The lively capital has plenty of interesting shops, and a good choice of tavernas, restaurants and music bars. Although there's a sandy town beach, most people choose to head for the superb east coast beaches on the local bus, or the pleasure boats which leave regularly from the modern cafe-lined harbour.

The island's second largest resort is Limenaria in the south-west, a lively village with several restaurants and bars, and a couple of discos. A narrow sand beach runs the length of the village, backed by raised taverna terraces, ending down at the tiny harbour with its colourful fishing boats.

A former fishing village Potos has now grown into a bustling picturesque resort although never losing its charm. Just four kilometres from Limenaria it offers a pleasant beach with an array of tavernas and bars along the old harbour front and has become a favourite with our past guests. More fine beaches are within easy reach at Pefkari, Psili Ammos and Tripiti, whilst other places well worth visiting in the south of the island are Archangelos Monastery, and the pretty fishing hamlets at Maries and Aliki, each with its own small beach.

Thassos is a little jewel of an island off the main tourist track - but for how long? We suggest you try it sooner rather than later!
