The endless golden sands at Kalamaki are a breeding ground for the famous Caretta turtles - and if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for us! Kids too love the safe swimming from this unspoilt super-beach, which runs south all the way to Laganas, Zante's biggest and liveliest resort, just five minutes away by taxi (turtles take the sea route!)
Holiday accommodation is well spread out among the olive groves, and the resort is just a short transfer from the airport (so there'll be some passing aircraft noise - but no night flights, you'll be pleased to know). Kalamaki has friendly bars, offering quiz and karaoke nights, and tavernas and restaurants serving some of the best traditional food on the island. Nightlife is still fairly low-key here, and Kalamaki is an excellent choice if you're looking for a more tranquil base close to Zakynthos Town, a short hop away by taxi or local bus. And if you decide to hire a car, the whole island's yours to explore.
