Around the headland, 5 kilometres or so north of Zakynthos Town, lies a gently curving bay with a mile-long beach of pale sand shelving very gradually into the sea. This is Tsilivi (pronounced 'silly-vee'), once just a small farming community, but nowadays a busy little resort that's proving very popular with holidaymakers of all ages, especially families.
There are plenty of tavernas, bars and mini-markets along the tracks leading through the olive groves down to the lovely beach, where you'll find a good selection of watersports, and now there is even a crazy golf course. Nightlife is still fairly low key here in the friendly music bars and a disco, but the capital itself is only a ten-minute taxi ride away if you fancy a change of scene.
