Cyprus
Where beauty and love were born…
This lovely sun-drenched Mediterranean island has impeccable romantic credentials throughout history! For starters, it's the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love, who rose fully formed from the sea at Petra tou Romiou. And lovesick Mark Anthony upset his fellow Romans when he gave the island to Cleopatra as a token of his devotion (but then, men often get into trouble when it comes to choosing presents, as any woman
will tell you!) Richard the Lionheart heroically came to the rescue of his young bride to be, Berengaria, when her family was shipwrecked on the coast near Limassol, and years later married her at the town's Chapel of St. George in 1191. A former British colony and Commonwealth republic, Cyprus has a familiar feel to us Brits - English is widely spoken, and they even drive on the left, so you and your guests will immediately feel very much at home here among the friendly islanders. You have a great choice of established holiday resorts, from welcoming, easy-going Paphos with its ancient sites and pretty harbour, to the bustling seaside towns of Larnaca and Limassol, and the laid-back beach resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras in the east. And when you want to escape the lively resorts and just be alone together, hop into a hire car and head for the magnificent Troodos Mountains, with their tiny unspoilt villages and cool, sun-dappled forest trails.
Rhodes
The perfect setting for your love story…
Sophisticated, cosmopolitan, enticing, fun-loving… Rhodes has all the film star appeal of a romantic movie hero or heroine, which is why it's always been one of Greece's star attractions.
The island capital is a harmonious marriage of two towns - the vibrant modern metropolis, with its smart shops and fashionable nightlife, and the Old Town, one of Europe's most stunning mediaeval citadels. Rhodes has more than its fair share of well established luxury hotels and apartment complexes with superb facilities, and all down the eastern coastline a string of resorts play host to sun worshippers who come for the fabulous sandy beaches and watersports. The jewel in the crown is Lindos, a picture postcard paradise of tiny white houses, topped by an imposing acropolis on a rocky outcrop overlooking two sheltered bays with golden sands and clear blue waters.
Santorini
Your friends back home won't believe it - but your pictures will
tell the story!
So, you want your wedding photos to be spectacular, breathtaking and just totally unforgettable? Well, have we got views for you! Santorini is one of the most visually remarkable places on earth, and you certainly won't find a more stunning venue for your very special day. Thira, the island capital, is an unmissable highlight
of any Mediterranean cruise - brilliant white houses and blue-domed churches perched on the cliff edge, with a thousand-foot drop into the wine-dark sea below. This sheer rock wall continues down into the inky depths of the bottomless volcanic caldera itself, so our advice is - don't drop your wedding ring! Mind you, you'd soon find a suitable replacement in one of the dazzling jewellery shops in Thira's narrow backstreets, lined with tantalising restaurants and chic boutiques. Santorini has a trio of lively beach resorts over on the east coast, where the nightlife is hectic in high season. If you fancy a quieter start to a romantic evening, head for one of the intimate cocktail bars in the tiny village of Oia, with terraces overlooking the volcanic crater. Hold hands as you watch the sun sink slowly in the west, staining sea and sky a kaleidoscope of crimson, orange and vermillion… we can pretty much guarantee it will make a grown man cry!
