Civil Weddings
Cyprus
You will need to obtain and take with you to Cyprus all of the relevant documents listed on the Documents Required page. All of the required paperwork will be processed once in resort. Once in Cyprus you will need to visit the local registry office twice, once to register your intent to marry and secondly to for a witnessed reading of the oath and reconfirmation of your wedding date and time. In between these two visits you must also visit the court to obtain your affidavit. Your wedding coordinator will have already arranged your "special licence" which authorises you to marry during your stay. Please see Budgeting for Your Wedding for information on fees payable in resort.
Greece
Once you have obtained all of the relevant documentation you must then forward them onto the FCO for legalisation. Documents must then be sent onto Kosmar Weddings to be processed. All paperwork must reach Kosmar a minimum of 8 weeks prior to departure for Rhodes weddings and 10 weeks for Santorini.
Anglican Church Weddings (Cyprus Only)
All Anglican weddings, except those performed by a Anglican priest, must be preceded by a civil ceremony therefore all requirements for a civil ceremony apply. The bride or groom must obtain and take with them to Cyprus a copy of their baptism/christening certificate as well as the name and address of the UK church minister as these documents and information must be given to the Anglican Priest in Cyprus.
Catholic Church Weddings
All Catholic weddings must be preceded by a civil ceremony therefore all requirements for a civil wedding apply. Catholic weddings can only be performed if both the bride and groom have never been married previously. Some correspondence will be required between your UK priest and the priest who will perform your wedding in resort. Please ask a coordinator for full details.
Documents and Legal Requirements
Please see the full list of documents required in relation to your destination and personal status. Please note that none of the documents sent to Greece or taken to Cyprus will be returned to you as they need to be kept as official records by the local authorities. Please Note: All documents transferred to Kosmar must be sent a minimum of recorded delivery at the clients' own cost.
Cyprus: All documents must be certified copies and are taken with you when you travel. There is no need for documents to be legalised or translated for Cyprus weddings and blessings. All paperwork will be processed once in resort.
Greece: for civil weddings all documents must be legalised and translated into Greek. You must arrange the legalisation of certified copies required at the foreign and commonwealth office. (Contact FCO directly on: 020 7008 1111 for information regarding current prices and procedures). We have negotiated a special rate for the translation of the standard documents required (2x Birth Certificates, 2x Certificate of no-impediment and 2 copies of your Marriage Certificate) any extra documents required relating to your status can also be translated at an additional cost of £40 per document
Choosing your Destination
Kosmar Weddings offer the islands of Cyprus, Rhodes or Santorini to host your wedding day. Details of each destination and the accommodation available to you can be found in the Kosmar summer brochure. The paperwork involved for weddings in Greece is more complicated than those in Cyprus. We will therefore require a longer notification period for weddings in Greece to allow time to process the required documentation.
Choosing your Wedding Venue
We have a range of stunning venues for your wedding ceremony from luxury hotels to chapels and town halls to wineries!. We have listed the available venues under each resort for you to choose from. Obviously, the type of wedding you require i.e. civil, Anglican or Catholic, will dictate the venues available to you. If there is somewhere you have thought of that cannot find in these pages please contact Kosmar Weddings who will do their very best to make it happen.
